I didn't know
I had died until
I awakened,
curtains slowly
swaying behind me,
house lights brightening,
audience just coming
into view,
everything subtly
changing before me,
everyone now older,
the young commanding
even more attention,
moving so quickly,
talking so loudly,
if only I was not so new.
All those I loved
had grown far wiser,
softly describing
the bleakest future,
looking to the face
found in the mirror,
listening to a voice they
thought they knew.
