The Room

Now we are all, finally,
gathered in the room,
simple, white, elegant,
fit for holding us
and our thoughts,
our sharpened words
sheathed from doing harm,
hurting anyone
we might have loved.
Silence is deeper here,
a way of being
we have not known.
Words never leave
our sealed lips,
as we cannot speak,
nor even breathe.
Our eyes alone
say all we have to say,
as slowly we learn
how to give, though
by no means
will any of us
be leaving soon,
knowing somehow
it's better, we stay
in the room.
