Santa Fe

Zuni jewelry
numbs in all its beauty,
turquoise, silver, stone
spread out on blankets
surrounding the mission.
In the nave,
holy water draws
parched souls
of the faithless,
bathed in light
through stained glass
far above.
From the darkness,
stations of the cross
emerge inside the chapel,
driving home the message
brought here by the Spanish,
still competing with the tokens
awaiting on the sidewalk,
a power invested in stone
instead of love.
