Moving Pictures

I never believe obits
with happy endings,
the bereaved gathered
at the bedside
as in some old movie,
their loved one
passing peacefully on.
Death doesn't require
multiple takes, or worry
about talkies having sound.
It knows an audience
is always waiting,
in line right now outside
the theater, impatient
for the next show to begin,
and when the door
finally closes,
it will not open up again,
unless, of course,
you're late arriving,
anxiously pleading
to be let in.
