Someone else
drove you in.
I handled your wheel,
looked into the eyes
of your mirror,
bargained over
every blemish;
finally parting
with good money
to take you home,
couldn't bring myself
to leave you there.

You sat waiting
for the usual
fill her up,
I could see
what a great deal
you thought you were,
even though
you were no longer new,
so much was missing;
but after being
touched all over,
restored to your
former glory,
just like before,
you got used
to everyone
noticing you.
