Expecting

They ask my name
and age,
my prescription
covered with instructions,
warnings of what
could possibly happen
if I'm not careful,
especially
if I'm expecting,
though my gender
seems not
to really matter,
somehow.

After checkout,
I emerge into the sun,
the bag gaining weight
as I walk homeward,
feeling my time
has finally come,
carrying enough
to pull me under,
my package
aching to be broken
open, now.
