Modern Love

Since I've stopped
the New York Times,
I'm no longer in touch
with Modern Love,
don't read anymore
about shopworn hearts
struggling to cope,
nor other variations
on ecstasy and loss,
offering lengthy explanations
of what was so beautiful
this time,
or how someone ended
her latest match
after learning
he was already married,
somehow just too unavailable
to be involved at all.
Nor do I still study
the perfect marital bliss
announced always at the end
of the very same section,
in which ideal newlywed couples,
stare right back at me
one after another,
every Sunday morning.
