Eyes Wide Open

I've told the dentist
no more implants.
I will stay
with what I have.
And the doctor
need not give me
any more medication,
for I'm happy
with where I am,
in a euphoria borne
of professional attention,
appointments kept,
my file growing thicker
year after year,
until I would not know
the patient described,
if I saw him
in the mirror.
I'm beyond the record,
now, eyes wide open
in clearest air,
waking up
each morning older,
without worry
or despair.
