Waiting, Now

Every morning,

I take one pill,

then another

in the evening,

whatever

the vial says,

just to keep

my heart from stopping,

giving me a chance

to keep on talking,

though I've noticed

it doesn't work

when I call you,

skipping beats,

pounding hard,

hearing you say,

"I'm losing you,

you're breaking up."

I'd be better off

just going free-range,

completely organic,

never heeding

those texts telling me

my new prescription

has been filled,

is already waiting,

now.
